Step 1: Define Your Engineering Requirements Before You Request Quotes

Before a supplier can give you a meaningful quote, you need to hand them a real specification, not just a bore size. That means defining:

A serious OEM supplier should be able to walk you through its process from raw material to final inspection, not just show you a finished part: raw material → forging/machining → heat treatment → grinding/finishing → coating → assembly → inspection → packaging.

Ask specifically which of those steps happen in-house and which are outsourced. Vertically integrated process control generally improves consistency and traceability, but outsourced steps aren’t automatically disqualifying — they just need to be controlled through qualified, verified subcontractors rather than left unmanaged.

Step 3: Put Quality Ahead of the Lowest Quote
