Growing in a Place That Makes Room to Try

"The best place to grow is one that gives you room to try, learn, and do the work well."

My name is Rory Shan, and I joined SYZ Machine in July 2022. Before that, I had worked in Putuo District, so it was interesting to suddenly choose a company much farther away after only one interview. What has surprised me most is how quickly time passes here. I believe the main reason is that my attitude toward work has changed. I no longer feel as if I am simply enduring each day.

SYZ does not have complicated layers of rules or a strong distance between managers and employees. My main responsibility is to receive orders and serve customers well, while colleagues in other functions help carry the project through the next stages. The company does not try to make one person do the work of three people. Instead, it gives me room to try, make mistakes, and improve without unnecessary pressure. Over the past few years, I have learned to think more clearly and stay calmer when problems appear. I have also become better at communicating with customers and seeing situations from their point of view. Bill is a thoughtful manager who plans ahead and reminds us about important customer situations. When I do not understand a product issue, I know I can ask him.

Linlin in HR has also made a strong impression on me. She understands the different circumstances of each person and does not treat employees and the company as opposing sides. She tries to communicate from both perspectives and find a balance. That is one of the ways SYZ differs from many workplaces.

The leadership team rarely creates the feeling that people are being forced forward. Zhou, Bill, and SYZ give people freedom while also encouraging them to discover their strengths and take responsibility. That kind of environment is rare. It makes me see SYZ as a collective group and motivates me to complete my work with more initiative.

Some people might joke that I have become too enthusiastic about work. I see it differently. Finding a workplace where you feel comfortable, willing to contribute, and able to grow is a real piece of good fortune. I hope to keep growing with SYZ and continue doing simple things well.
