I have been with SYZ Machine for three years. This is also my first job after university. I have said more than once that I feel happy working here. Meeting the people at SYZ changed the way I felt about Shanghai and helped the city become a place I enjoy calling home.
When I joined, I knew very little about international trade. I had studied some theory, but real work was completely different from a textbook. Product knowledge, customer development, quotations, order follow-up, and unexpected problems were all new challenges. When I first communicated with overseas customers, I worried that my English was not accurate enough or that my replies would not sound professional. I checked many emails repeatedly before sending them.
Our products are highly specialized automotive components. When I was asked during my interview what I knew about the industry, I honestly said that I did not know much. I have come to understand that every industry can be new at the beginning. To serve customers better, I gradually learned about materials, manufacturing processes, performance, vehicle fitment, and production workflows.
I moved from confusing basic product names to discussing details with customers, helping analyze solutions, and solving problems. The progress was slow, but every step felt meaningful. I also learned to work independently instead of relying on others for tasks I could handle myself.
International trade is not always smooth. I have faced complaints, delayed projects, unsuccessful quotations, and many situations where hard work did not produce an immediate result. When difficulties arise, I remind myself to keep going. The problem has already happened; worry and regret should not come before finding a solution.
My favorite part of the work is talking with customers. A compliment, a personal story, or a problem we solve together can all remind me why this profession is worthwhile. I am grateful for the people I have met and the way this journey has helped me grow.
